With equal amounts of skepticism and desperation, I bought Verilux's Happy Light on line. I couldn't be happier. This model is pretty big and sits like a satellite on my desk, but it does the trick.
After a few days, I think I mentally fooled myself into thinking it was working. But really, after two weeks, I know it is. When 5 o'clock rolls around, I'm not thinking about putting on my pajamas and calling it a night.
It's absolutely worth the money, so if you're feeling tired and worn out from the cold and lack of sun, go for it. Until the snow and cold make their exit, I'll have my morning coffee and check my email with the Happy Light.

I borrowed this from my SAD therapist, who specializes in SAD and sleep disorders. She lent me this one as a trial and gave me brochures on other lightboxes she recommended. Light boxes are not all the same. She said, avoid the blue light ones, too. This Happy Light was great because the design is smooth, streamlined, lightweight yet having the power needed to deliver the 10,000 lux you need a day. I doesn't scream out "I have SAD!!!" I only use it at home, but I often move it from room to room depending on where I want to station myself. My 68 year old neighbor suffers with bi-polar and is much affected by light deprivation here in No. Idaho. We are 50 miles from the Canadian border, so by November we are into many more hours of dark than light. The change in my friend was nothing short of dramatic! I cannot emphasize enough the symptoms of SAD this product helps alleviate. Before I actually saw the results of this therapy I was fairly skeptical. Having witness a veritable 'Jeckle & Hyde' transformation in my friend, I am now a believer. This is one product that actually lives up to its hype. I have only used this for a week now but i see a significant difference already. I have alot more energy and am not depressed when i think about having to leave the house for things that are not musts. I used to hibrinate once the weather got cold and the light diminished earlier and earlier. I found this week i did not mind it at all. Of course i would prefer summer and natural sunlight, but this lite seems to be helping me tremedously. It was the best investment i have made towards my well being and would recommend it to everyone like me who suffers from SADD>

I finally realized a pattern in my mood change during the winter months. This year when I mentioned it to my sister she told me about this light. I have always trusted her opinion, so I decided to buy one. I am SO GLAD I did. I use it for 45 minutes while I am getting ready for work every morning and what a difference it has made! My daughters call this "the year of the light". I am so much happier and feel able to cope. I really enjoyed the holidays this year. For anyone who thinks they have seasonal depression, I would recommend they try it. Consistency is important.
