1. This is a nice study lamp. It is NOT a therapeutic lamp, but working with good light is good for you because:
a) your mother told you so, and you know mother is always right
b) working/studying/reading with good light puts less stress on your eyes. Your brain interprets what your eyes see so therefore, it puts less stress on your brain. having less stress on your brain will probably put you in a better mood, or at least allow you to spend more energy working instead of trying to see.
c) Bright light keeps you awake. Soft light is too relaxing for studying.
It has 2 settings, very-bright and less very-bright. Yes, both settings are very bright. No, it is not UFO bright, but it has a very sharp, clean, cold brightness that is unusual at first but is perfect for serious work. This light does NOT look like sunlight, unless it's winter and you're in Michigan.
I do NOT like the construction. Yes, it has a flexible neck. Yes it probably won't break. Yes it stays in any orientation I maneuver it into. But I don't like the plastic. For what I paid for it, it shouldn't be made of cheap looking plastic. I mean, it looks fine. In fact, it looks EXACTLY like the product picture (smooth finish, big head, big base). It just doesn't look like I spent as much as I did on it. I was fine with that, however, UNTIL (and this is what really annoys me) the piece that covers the light bulb looks cheaper than plastic "chrome" hub-caps. And yes, it fell off for no reason yesterday, and since it won't click into place (due to cheapness) although it is designed to, and every time I bump the lamp gravity has its way and the cover falls on my desk. Or usually my laptop.
This can be easily fixed with a paperclip/toothpick/piece of scotch tape but who wants to jerry rig something that a) cost you money to begin with and b) has a return policy.
