Customer Review: Very good light...

I generally review 3 kinds of stuff: (1) knocks my socks off, (2) annoys me, or (3)has some feature that hasn't been mentioned but I think should be. This lamp doesn't fit into any of these categories but it's a good lamp. One feature that I like is the 2-light-level switch. I often use the lower level to augment available daylight and the upper level when I'm reading with an overhead light on. I'm not fond of using it as the sole light source. This is partly due to the fact that the light from the lamp looks unusually cold (think of the "white", glary headlights of a modern car). And partly it is due to the smallish "pool" of light given off by the lamp. If you're reading a book or knitting, a small pool of light works well. For a newspaper, however, not very. Would other lamps work better? Probably not.
Bottom line: Am I happy with it? Yes. I like the little platform thing, which I use for a pad and pen. I like the adjustability of the light (the goose-neck feature, which, because it's a floor lamp, I won't change very often). The whole thing seems sturdy and well-made. I like having two light levels. The diffuser that attaches under the bulb to prevent the light from shining directly in your eyes is also a nice touch.
It just didn't knock my socks off.

The floor lamp is next to my bed and is used as a lamp for reading. The spectral output is condusive to reading as the light is easy on the eyes and uses a more natural light ray. The tray is thoughtful as well as practical. It works well for your glasses, and small accessories.
One concern: I own four additional natural spectrum lamps. They look similar, but are from different vendors. Two of the lamps failed after a couple of years. I did not have them repaired yet and do not know what broke or burnt out. It is not the bulb. If I have them serviced I will report back.
I purchased one of the lamps for my wife. She has it on whenever she is reading and favors it over her old Halogen light.
We both give it a buy rating and would recommend it to a friend.
Customer Review: Defective Lamp and Awful Customer Service

Twenty minute assembly, but the lamp was defective. It flashed for a brief second and then went out. Upon inspection I could see that the bulb was cracked. I called the service line but only "sales" was there at the customer service number. If they had said that they would call me in the morning, that would have been fine. But, no. They refused to take a message and told me to call them back tomorrow. When I started to say I would return the lamp, they hung up on me. What? Is that customer service? I should keep trying until "I" reach them? Better that I get a lamp from someone who will service it. However, Amazon is fantastic with their no hassle returns!! Printed out the return label immediately.
Good for you, Amazon!

We recently moved, and our new living room has no overhead lighting. We had one floor lamp, but needed another, and after some research this is the one my wife selected for my Christmas present.
It was simple enough to assemble, but the "grid" covering the light had a tendency to fall off easily until we bent it back a little to fit more snugly. The base is hefty, and the neck is easily adjustable for positing the light where you want.
The light has two settings. The lower setting is fine for reading, but the higher level gives a bit more light, which comes in handy when trying to add light to the room and not just the book.
I would buy this lamp again, and am looking at the Verilux desk lamps as well for my office.

I ordered this lamp when my halogen reading lamp broke, and in most ways it's perfect for my needs. It was easy to set up (even for me) and the quality of the lighting makes reading a pleasure. The halogen lamp was very intense and very hot, while this one is cool and relaxing for the eyes. The only down-side is that it provides very little lighting outside of its immediate area. Others' reviews had warned about this feature, so I knew what I was buying, but I've had to supplement the lighting for other areas of the room, areas that the halogen lamp had made very bright. Even so, I'm very glad I bought this verilux lamp. When I read in its light, eyestrain is gone, and that is priceless.
