We love this lamp. My husband uses it everyday it is by his lounge chair. The light does exactly what the adversting states. Direct light, where you want it, plus the shelf is an added bonus for holding reading glasses. I now can read a book while my husband watches television! The product I received was totally defective. The base of the lame was defective so that the shaft could not be inserted, holes lined up and screw put in place.
