I really like the light portion of this product, went to sleep and awoke gently using just the light. The sound leaves a lot to be desired. If I try to use the lower volume, there is a terrible screeching sound that does not go away no matter how far down I lower the volume. By taping cotton and cardboard over the speaker, I am able to lower the nature sounds to a tolerable level. Of course, I lose sound quality and I finally simply turned the sound completely off. But the gentle waking to gradual light is lovely.Customer Review: Happy Camper

I have had this lamp for 11 years and am just now replacing the bulb. Mine has always functioned the way I expected and the way that is helpful to me:1) the lamp and sound starts coming on 15 min. before the set alarm time. It begins softly and dimly and increasingly becomes louder and brighter. It has never failed me - I used to dread waking up to a sharp shrill sound or bright light - no longer. I wouldn't be without my Verilux Rise and Shine lamp. I love it because I wake up gradually, not with a start!Customer Review: Love it!

I love this lamp! So far it has helped make me less groggy in the morning and I enjoy waking up to the simulated dawn as well as the sound (I like the chirping birds as do my cats). The light comes on gradually and brightens to a wonderful daylight. I highly recommend this light! The radio has the stations printed on the top of the dial which was a little weird but once I figured it out it was easy to tune and the reception is quite good. I also like how the clock part changes color and brightness. Very cool.Customer Review: Love it, would buy it again

I recently bought the Verilux Rise and Shine to help me transition into waking up about two hours earlier than I used to. The lamp is brilliant - although I get less sleep than before, I feel bright and awake in the mornings. The sounds are repetitive (and some are kind of annoying), but I've found that I do not wake up with the light alone. I think the harbor sounds are all right for the mornings, and I really love the rain and ocean for going to sleep at night (the lamp's sleep timer is great!)Customer Review: Piece of rubbish

Radio comes on at same time as light, and it comes on too loud so you're startled awake. By the time it reaches the end of the "wake up" cycle it's loud enough to wake up the whole house!
Light starts off too bright.
So basically the wake up from this was worse than the existing alarm clock and turning a light on manually!
Returned after 1 day of testing.
(And it looks cheap and nasty as well).
