The only reason I brought this particular pair of Wahl clippers is the color coded combs. Great for people with poor eyesight, since the color/length of cut is written on the clipper handle. I can't see the embossed writing on the combs. I've always used Wahl, my son-in-law came over and got mine, he's in the military and well needs a touch up by Monday morning. So off I went, and got this pair because of the above mentioned. I got the trashcan and sheered off my hair to 1/4 of an inch, cuts well. I'm retired military, I like it short, if I can comb my hair, it's too long. Now I'm not Joe Pro Barber, so I can't tell you about the finer things to look for in clippers. What I can tell you it's what I used in the military. Saved my bacon when I got little notice some big wig was trolling through our area, tighten up the old mop if you know what I mean. Also 12 years after I retired. Yeah save money, and avoid waiting in the barber shop on my off time. Chow.Customer Review: I don't regret my purchase

These are my 3rd Wahl clippers over the past 20 years, and they do a really good job. This one seems much more refined than my last two, as sometimes the only way you know you are cutting hair is when the hair falls on the ground.
It has the standard No. 1 to No. 8 guards, but it also includes a No. 1/2 guard, which I didn't know existed.
It doesn't have a guard beyond No. 8, but I don't know of any clipper set that includes a guard beyond 8. I also use a 10 and 12, and I have to get them separately.
It has a lot of extras that you don't need, but has a few things that are handy, like a neck duster. The scissors, however, are much cheaper than what I've gotten from Wahl in the past, so I'm keeping my old scissors.
You can find cheaper Wahl clippers, but you can't go wrong getting this one.

Well, I wish I could add an audio file so you can hear how horribly loud these things are. They vibrate so much you could probably get a decent massage out of them if you could stand the noise. It comes with an adjustment screw, but no matter what you do, they are unbearably, abnoxiously loud! The seem to cut OK, except my wife has to squeeze the sap out of them when cutting to try and dampen the vibrations. The one nice thing is the extra small plastic spacer it comes with which helps fade military hair cuts better. Maybe I got one of the bad ones, but I will never buy Wahl again (or at least I will definately keep my receipt so I can return them as soon as I re-prove to myself that they suck.) I recommend you shop for something cordless, that claims it is "extra" quiet, and most importantly NOT Wahl. These are horrible clippers.Customer Review: Listen to a man who knows...

I've personally been using my Wahl clippers for 8 years. Before I found them in my house and began using them who knows how many times they had been used. I use them on my self at least once a month; and for a period of 5 years I have used them to cut most of my friends' hair. In short, the clippers were getting used weekly for a long, long time. I have numerous friends who have tried to buy clippers from other companies over the years, and ALL have not held up. Most of them switch over to Wahl after inquiring about mine. I have rarely, rarely as in 4 times, used the clipper oil, and have never cleaned them spotlessly. I write this due to the complete blasphemy that has been written about these clippers. These are the best clippers money can buy, and I will NEVER use anything but Wahl. Happy shopping...Customer Review: LOVE this set...the color guide is outstanding...

I use this for my husband's hair...and pretty occasionally to cut hair for friends.
I just bought an Andis grooming clipper set for my dog. (Because I didn't want to switch out blades constantly.) It's OK, but it made me appreciate my Wahl clippers that much more!
Each comb is a different color. You just glance at the clipper's handle, and it tells you what color to grab depending on what length comb you need!
With almost every other set set, you have to try to read the plastic comb itself. Blah!
We've had our Wahl for a few years now, and it's still going strong. Great choice! I'll take it over my old Oster and Andis sets any day!
The switch is a little stiff, but hey, you don't have to worry about turning it on or off by accident!
