Customer Reviews of Wahl 9918-6171 Groomsman Beard and Mustache Trimmer

Customer Review: WOW... How is this trimmer only 20 bucks??
Summary: 5 Stars

My Wahl 9918-617 Groomsman Beard trimmer just arrived today, and my first impression was just... WOW. It looks VERY durable, refined and polished. Its hard to believe it only cost me 20 bucks on Amazon...

Anyway, quality and price don't mean much if it can't cut, so I decided to turn it on for a test run. The only problem was, I just shaved my face last night, with a Mach 3 nonetheless...

Just for kicks tho, I ran it down my face (with the grain) and was almost shocked at what I heard. I HEARD HAIRS BEING CUT!!! I then ran it up my face and heard even more hairs being cut! This thing is beyond ridiculous...

Now don't get me wrong, there's still stubble on my face (although it feels noticeably smoother). I'm just amazed that it actually cut anything at all! My facial hair doesn't even grow that fast either... All I can say is that I'm REALLY looking forward to trimming my entire face in a few days. WAHL = #1 Closest Trimmer, HANDS DOWN

P.S. - Comparing the blades on my old (1 year) Norelco Trimmer to Wahl's blades, it's almost laughable... I've been wanting to sport the permanent 5 o'clock shadow for a while now, but my Norelco did such a bad job (cut my skin, pulled at/irritated my hair follicles, didn't cut low enough) that I had to endure the pains of shaving with a blade...

NOT ANYMORE... Thank you Wahl...

Customer Review: Finally Figured It Out - People With Sensitive Skin! My Regular Shaver.
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been experimenting for months with different shaving techniques because I have a big problem with ingrown hairs/razor bumps//razor burn/irritation etc. I researched and studied that this is mostly caused by shaving too close. So I went on a quest to find the best method for shaving. I tried regular blades, foil shavers, rotary shavers and have reached a conclusion that works for me.

Buy a Wahl trimmer! That's the answer. I use it as my regular shaver now. And don't buy a Norelco, why? Because Wahl's have the finer (smaller) teeth, which will be just close enough and not too close. Norelcos don't have the fine teeth, so it's not close enough usually. I actually have the "Goatee" version of this shaver and it is my savior so far. It gives me a nearly perfect stubble look (like at most 1 day growth). And it cuts the hair great, without the irritation or anything. I don't even use or need the comb attachments because it would. So I use this as my regular shaver.

However, there may be days when I need to be clean-shaven, so when I have to, I use a Panasonic foil shaver. It shaves very close with the least irritation from any other shaver I've tried.

I give it a 4/5 star only because it does get a little messy, and it would be really nice to have a vacuum or something. But so what, shave before a shower and there will be no mess.

Customer Review: So far so good
Summary: 4 Stars

This is my first Wahl trimmer and it is doing well for what I need.

My Norelco Maverick was slowing down about a year ago(about 10 yrs. old) so I bought a Remington trimmer. A nice trimmer in all respects except it did not trim my beard close enough. I like about 1/16" length. Last month the Norelco quit and the hunt began.

After much research and review reading I settled on the Wahl 9918-617. It has plenty of power(I do not have a real heavy beard) and charged quickly. I have used it for almost a month and am on the original charge(use it about three times a week). The attachments are a bit tricky to use, however if one is careful and uses the screwdriver like tool at the end of the brush they can be managed quite well. The adjustable comb works best for me on the shortest setting. I use it only for cutting my beard to length and use the Remington for all else. Some folks complained about the loudness of the trimmer, however it is no louder than the Remington. A bit louder than the Norelco which was run by batteries.

Over all I am pleased with the product for the price. It seems to be well designed is not akward to shave with. It has some weight, but is not heavy. I consider it a bargain for the price.

Customer Review: If you purchase this trimmer, then PLEASE KEEP YOUR RECEIPT
Summary: 1 Stars

I have had either a beard or goatee for the last 28 years, and for most of this time I owned a Wahl trimmer. My first Wahl lasted 10 years, my second Wahl lasted for 8 years. I took a 3 year break using a Norelco (which was a Christmas gift), however, I was never satisfied with the cut at longer settings. I ultimately went back to various Wahl trimmers, yet they all gave out (battery, motor, etc) in less than 2 years.

Deciding to give Wahl one last chance. I purchased the "All-in-One Trimmer Kit," given that it had a 5-year warranty. The battery quit recharging after the 3rd month, and Wahl's position was since I failed to keep my Target receipt, there was no warranty coverage. Not keeping the receipt was definitely my fault. However, I can say, through personal experience, that Wahl's quality and performance has SIGNIFICANTLY declined over the years (based on my last four purchases), and this was the last Wahl trimmer that I will ever own. If you cannot purchase any other trimmer but a Wahl, my advice is that you hold fast to your receipt...because I fear you will need it sooner rather than later. If any other option is available to you, I would strongly urge you to consider it, rather than purchasing a Wahl.

Customer Review: Wahl Makes Best Trimmers
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using a Wahl beard trimmer for nearly 6 years. It finally started to show its age and I went looking for a new one. I tried Remington brand, and they just did not work for me. I have very thick, stubborn hair and the Remmington's blades did not get close enough to my skin to get the hairs I wanted. So I went back to what I knew worked, and re-ordered a new Wahl Beard Trimmer. This one is very similar to my old one, except a few new things. There are more blade guards than before, and the clipper setting now has 6 stages instead of 5. Otherwise, the trimmer is the same.

And that is a good thing. Immediately, the new Wahl made a difference and I am very happy with the results. The reason why Wahl is so much better than anything else (including the Remington) is that the blades that move back and forth as so much closer the to the guard teeth that you can see the difference. Go to a store and look...you can see the difference between this trimmer and other brands. The Wahl will always cut closer and better. There is no other brand I would recommend - Wahl trimmers are simply the highest quality you can find in this price range that give the closest trim on your face.
