Customer Reviews of Waterpik Ultra Cordless Dental Water JetCustomer Review: Poor Performance, Smaller Reservior, Poor Value Summary: 1 StarsBecause of their inherent convenience and ease of use, I am a big fan of battery-powered oral irrigators and have had several of Waterpik's older WP-360W model. I also have a Panasonic EW1270AC which I reserve for travel because of it's tiny reservoir and compact size. Those WP-360s suffered from weak batteries and unreliable electronics so I went through several of them and was initially happy to see Waterpik introducing a new-improved, and more costly WP-450 "Ultra". Unfortunately, there is nothing improved about the WP-450 and it is merely an "Ultra-disappointment".
Pros:
-Some reviewers have observed better battery life, I was unable to confirm this.
Cons:
-Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
-Poor Reservoir Capacity -only 120 ml or 20% less than the already-tiny WP-360's 150 ml
-Terrible portability, large/inefficient size, ungainly ergonomics
-Weak water stream.
In short, the Waterpik Ultra WP-450 is less (performance) for more (money). Two thumbs waaay down.
Customer Review: close, but no cigar .. .it doesn't make it Summary: 2 StarsWith high hopes I got this. it has some serious flaws: the reservoir tank is good for 1/3 of the mouth and the tip keeps jumping out of the holder and rotates. WaterPik can and should do better.
Customer Review: Poorly Thought Out Design, Didn't Do The Job Summary: 1 StarsI echo the comments in previous reviews, and add the question: did anyone in management at Waterpik try this thing before they decided to sell it? The poor design is awful. It defeats the user. Waterpik should be embarrassed.
Two problems say it all. As someone else commented, the head swivels uncontrollably in your mouth, making it impossible to control the angle of the water when it hits your teeth, which is after all the purpose of using the waterpik.
Second, as also noted, the reservoir is small. After you are done wrestling with the swiveling head, the water runs out -- it's like an I Love Lucy comedy.
I actually like the Waterpik concept, and own a larger unit. However, I have had problems with poor quality. The first one I bought didn't work and needed to be returned. I also bought the earlier travel version, which seems to be no longer made, and it worked well but fell apart after about 3 weeks of use. Now this. It's hard to imagine a competitor hasn't emerged and offered a well thought out, quality alternative.
Customer Review: Waterpik WP-450 Summary: 3 StarsWaterpik Ultra Cordless Dental Water Jet
I've been using this model for only a few weeks, so it's too early to tell if it fixes the main problem of the cordless Waterpik 360, which is that before the first year is out, the rechargable battery will no longer hold a charge and so the device becomes useless. (This happened with three previous Waterpik 360s). A Waterpik rep I wrote to about this problem said that the WP-450 has an upgraded battery. Otherwise, the 450 seems to work adequately. But I agree with some of the other reviewers who find that the reservoir is too small (it runs out of water in about 30 seconds even at the low pressure setting) and the water tip is harder to control than the one on the WP-360. You have to hold the base of the tip with your finger to prevent it from rotating inside your mouth.
Update: The unit failed after three months of twice-a-day use. It was taking more and more pushes of the switch to activate the electric motor(even after being fully charged), and the motor itself started sounding like a car running on cheap gas. I called Waterpik, and they're sending a replacement; but given my previous experience with Waterpik portables, I'm not optimistic. I've ordered the portable Panasonic model, so we'll see how that one works after a few months.
Customer Review: Don't waste your money Summary: 1 StarsI don't even know where to begin. Some of the problems are just because its made to be portable. Of course it doesn't hold much water - so, you have to refill it about 4 times. That is understandable. The design is horrible though. The head swivels and turns while you're using it making it impossible to direct whre you want the water to go. You have to hold it upright and of course the water runs out of your mouth and all over the device and your hand, down your arm, etc. They should make a portable device with a seperate tank with a hose - something similar to the regular full size model, but with a smaller tank, shorter hose, and smaller handle. It makes no sense to have the head, handle, and tank in one piece - stupid design.
