Customer Reviews of Waterpik Waterflosser Cordless PLUSCustomer Review: Thank God they finally figured this out. Summary: 5 Stars
For several years my dentist has been encouraging me to use a Waterpik since I have a receding gum line and pockets around several crowns. I've tried to use a conventional Waterpik but I have found it frustrating and awkward to use. We have little counter space in our bathroom so it's difficult to find a place to rest the base. I just feel it is poorly designed. So I stick with using it for a few weeks then give up. My wife is in the same boat.
I've had this new cordless Waterpik for several weeks and I am extremely happy with it. It takes up very little room on the counter. It is very easy and comfortable to use. I find the water reservoir is the perfect size. It holds just the right amount of water for me to clean all my teeth. It is a significant improvement to have the entire unit built into the handle. It is much easier to control the stream of water and keep it from spraying all over the bathroom. Because this unit is so easy to use, I now use it daily as my dentist recommends. I recently took it with me on a business trip which also went off without a hitch. Whatever other design problems Waterpik has had in the past, I think they have solved them with this model. If your dentist recommends that you use a Waterpik, this is the one to buy. I can't say anything about its durability since I've only had it for about a month. But given the value I am getting out of it, I won't mind replacing it if and when it breaks. It is an excellent appliance.
Customer Review: Waterpik WP-450 Summary: 3 Stars
Waterpik Ultra Cordless Dental Water Jet
I've been using this model for only a few weeks, so it's too early to tell if it fixes the main problem of the cordless Waterpik 360, which is that before the first year is out, the rechargable battery will no longer hold a charge and so the device becomes useless. (This happened with three previous Waterpik 360s). A Waterpik rep I wrote to about this problem said that the WP-450 has an upgraded battery. Otherwise, the 450 seems to work adequately. But I agree with some of the other reviewers who find that the reservoir is too small (it runs out of water in about 30 seconds even at the low pressure setting) and the water tip is harder to control than the one on the WP-360. You have to hold the base of the tip with your finger to prevent it from rotating inside your mouth.
Update: The unit failed after three months of twice-a-day use. It was taking more and more pushes of the switch to activate the electric motor(even after being fully charged), and the motor itself started sounding like a car running on cheap gas. I called Waterpik, and they're sending a replacement; but given my previous experience with Waterpik portables, I'm not optimistic. I've ordered the portable Panasonic model, so we'll see how that one works after a few months.
Customer Review: Not as good as the regular ones Summary: 2 Stars
Having used my girlfriend's platinum model, and now owning the classic myself, I was not crazy about the cordless model. It works, just not as well.
Here are my issues:
The tip moves all around, and even if you hold the rotating dial with your thumb, the tip still moves in the housing. This was the biggest issue, as it made it difficult to make sure the tip was facing the right direction.
The fact that you have to hold it upright means you make a bigger mess, spilling dirty water all over the entire waterpik (which you can't immerse in water, supposedly). It also gives less control over angling the thing in the right way, and combined with the moving tip, it's just that much harder.
The water capacity is much less, and filling it is not as simple, especially if you want to use mouthwash in it. I was concerned about leaks developing, as the plug design seemed pretty flimsy.
The power seems to be much lower, and even lower once it encounters resistance such as your tooth or gum. Typical of cordless devices, I guess.
Fewer power settings.
Pros:
It comes with more tips than the classic, and it does save a lot of space.
All in all, it works, but having already used one that works much better I decided to get the cheaper classic model. After a few days, I'm happy I decided to switch.
Customer Review: 1 Star is One Too Many Summary: 1 Stars
ULTRA BAD! I should have read the reviews BEFORE buying (non-Amazon purchase). The idea is great but it doesn't come close to meeting expectations. Overall, poorly designed and engineered. Don't engineers or sales people EVER use their own products? Mine lasted maybe 3 months, getting worse each month, until the battery AND motor/pump were both shot. ~$50 gone and ended up in the trash (oops, I meant green "save the earth" recycle bin).
1. Tip is impossible to control and spins around freely, spraying water everywhere but where you intended.
2. Plastic housing and controls are slippery when wet. Only 2 water pressure speeds and high is not powerful enough after using for 1-2 weeks.
3. Reservoir is difficult to fill completely because air has to be displaced at the same time and through the same hole used to add water.
4. Reservoir is not large enough, so you have to fill it 2-3 times per use.
5. It's very loud and noisy. Could be banned after-hours in some communities. Takes too long to re-charge.
6. Replacement tips are very brittle, so they break easily, are non-standard, and impossible to find in a store.
7. The water re-fill plug becomes almost impossible to open, and then begins to leak from a bad seal.
8. The 2 happiest moments for me with this product were 1) the day I bought it, and 2) the day I trashed it.
Customer Review: Poor design, construction Summary: 1 Stars
I have used it for two weeks. Now I have decided to throw it away. This is one of the worst dental products I have tried. Here are the problems I have.
1. The tip keeps popping out if I set the power to high. I tried both the regular tip and the tip for pockets. Both of them have the same problem. So I don't bother to buy a new tip.
2. The tip vibrates a lot that I cannot position it to the gum line. The whole idea is to get the water to the gumline. But it vibrates so much that it won't do the job right.
3. Tip rotates on the contact of anything. By design, there is a dial to rotate the tip. But it can be easily rotated by slightly turning it. So once the tip is in your mouth, it changes the direction easily.
4. Smaill reservoir: The water reservoir is very small. It was designed that way to be portal. Unfortunately it is simply too small. I have to fill water four times to cover the whole mouth.
5. There is no charging light. With all the problems above, I actually don't care too much on this.
The whole idea of water jet is even doubtable. I used this for two weeks without using proxabrushes for my perio problems. My gum started bleeding again. I would classify this as a piece of junk. I may use it as water gun for my kids. But again the water reservoir is too small...
