Customer Reviews of Waterpik Waterflosser Cordless PLUSCustomer Review: Poorly Thought Out Design, Didn't Do The Job Summary: 1 Stars
I echo the comments in previous reviews, and add the question: did anyone in management at Waterpik try this thing before they decided to sell it? The poor design is awful. It defeats the user. Waterpik should be embarrassed.
Two problems say it all. As someone else commented, the head swivels uncontrollably in your mouth, making it impossible to control the angle of the water when it hits your teeth, which is after all the purpose of using the waterpik.
Second, as also noted, the reservoir is small. After you are done wrestling with the swiveling head, the water runs out -- it's like an I Love Lucy comedy.
I actually like the Waterpik concept, and own a larger unit. However, I have had problems with poor quality. The first one I bought didn't work and needed to be returned. I also bought the earlier travel version, which seems to be no longer made, and it worked well but fell apart after about 3 weeks of use. Now this. It's hard to imagine a competitor hasn't emerged and offered a well thought out, quality alternative.
Customer Review: Poor Performance, Smaller Reservior, Poor Value Summary: 1 Stars
Because of their inherent convenience and ease of use, I am a big fan of battery-powered oral irrigators and have had several of Waterpik's older WP-360W model. I also have a Panasonic EW1270AC which I reserve for travel because of it's tiny reservoir and compact size. Those WP-360s suffered from weak batteries and unreliable electronics so I went through several of them and was initially happy to see Waterpik introducing a new-improved, and more costly WP-450 "Ultra". Unfortunately, there is nothing improved about the WP-450 and it is merely an "Ultra-disappointment".
Pros:
-Some reviewers have observed better battery life, I was unable to confirm this.
Cons:
-Expensive, Poor Value: Price is ~70% higher than the WP-360
-Poor Reservoir Capacity -only 120 ml or 20% less than the already-tiny WP-360's 150 ml
-Terrible portability, large/inefficient size, ungainly ergonomics
-Weak water stream.
In short, the Waterpik Ultra WP-450 is less (performance) for more (money). Two thumbs waaay down.
Customer Review: A Solution to the "battery" problem. Summary: 3 Stars
I have had two rechargable Waterpiks. Both had the same problem. After about 5 or 10 months the unit gradually loses the ability to charge up. Most users assume that the battery became defective.
I really need this thing so I decided to look into it and found that the battery in each case was fine. What happens is that the connector on the charging cable gradually deteriorates. This might be due to getting wet repeatedly combined with corrosion and deposits. The inside of the female part of the connector gets get eaten away and actually gets larger in diameter. The electrical connection deteriorates and finally becomes unusable. As a result the battery no longer gets recharged.
I found that the "AdaptaPlug" connector system available at Radio Shack has the same pin diameter and pin spacing. By whittling some plastic away I made a better connector from the Radio Shack parts and now the Waterpiks work like new.
The part numbers of the Radio Shack connectors needed are:
Male: 273-1742
Female: 273-1743
Customer Review: Mold growth in reservoir! Summary: 2 Stars
Years ago I used the original Waterpick and it was mighty powerful and effective. But, I decided to purchase this on a whim for the convenience of having a smaller appliance. I've never had the problems with the battery that others described but I did discover one day a black colony of mold growing at the seams of the water reservoir. I found this to be terribly disturbing considering that I use peroxide in the reservoir and kept it clean and in a cabinet at all times. Apparently, the reservoir was leaking and air-borne or water-borne bacteria got into it as well. NOT GOOD! There isn't any way to clean this reservoir either unless you can get a brush into the small hole and even so, you would need to bleach it to kill all the bacteria. I would not recommend this product for that reason alone.
Additionally, it's not nearly as powerful as the original waterpick so there isn't any gum massage. The only thing I liked about it was that I could get a more effective between the teeth rinse after brushing and flossing.
Customer Review: Wonderful, wonderful Summary: 5 Stars
I read a few of the negative reviews and wondered if I'm using the same product.
I bought this about 2 months ago and have used it daily. It never ceases to amaze me what comes out after brushing thoroughly and I actually make sure my sink is spotless so I can see the results.
I have none of the problems mentioned in other emails. The charge holds for a long time. I easily go a week between charges and do it only as a precaution. The head doesn't move at all. I don't need to turn the thing upside down as fully upright and moving my head, I am able to angle it to hit everywhere. By the time I have gone over my teeth and gums thoroughly the water tank finally dries out so I have more than ample water in the tank. Before I got thisthis, my gums would sometimes bleed when I brushed. Now it never happens.
Because my bathroom is small and there's no storage room on the sink, I love the cordless model. I love this so much that I am buying one for my daughter with braces.
