I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome, but I'm an interior design student and I draft a lot, sometimes 20 hour rounds. At the sime time I have to research furniture on the internet, so I also use the computer all day long. That makes my right wrist and palm hurt, and so I decded to look for a brace.
I saw this one here, but I wouldn't wait to get it, so I want to all the places I knew to look for it, or for something with its characteristics. I didn't found this one, but I got what I thought would be almost a replica: Ace Tek Zone wrist support with gel cushion, s/m. I used that one for two days straight, 18 hour each day, and my wrist/hand didn't hurt at all when I took it off!! The thing is, by the end of the second day, I couldn't deal any more with the itching, and I took it off to discover I had red bumps all over: allergies. Turns out the support has Triclosan, an antibacterial that does more bad than good, and in my case, it gave allergies. So as a replacement I bought this Wellgate support, making sure it didn't contain antibacterial stuff... Turns out I miss the Ace support. This Wellgate one is a perfect fit, except they the tumb hole is way smaller than my Ace one, so it is slightly uncomfortable in comparison, especially when using it long hours. I also miss the very low profile of the velcro on the Ace one, and the gel pad on the palm. Also, the splints are removeable, very smart bc I don't use them. On the Wellgate they are 'permanent', which made it necessary to slash the thing open to get the splint out (I left the top splint in, is pretty flexible).
The advantage of the Wellgate one, is that the top part is slanted, so my little finger has more room. Also, it has no nasty Triclosan. Other than those two things, the Wellgate support is not any better than the Ace, both very good quality, attention to detail, comfortability.
If you are sensitive to chemicals, skip the Ace one and get this. If you are not sensitive (hint: you are the one constantly using the sanitary gels for hands), then get the Ace one, it is very supportive even without the splints, and the strap right over the wrist does wonders, plus it won't show dirt so quickly, it is less bulky (their velcro makes a world of difference), the tumb hole is more convenient, it fits small wrists (mine is 6.0), it's more adjustable, splints removeable, gel pad... I wish I hadn't princess skin! Let's ban discriminated use of Triclosan already!!
