Customer Review: Happy Boy (and parents) with DRY PANTS!!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

First of all, I (mom) am a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, so I have some experience giving advice on bed-wetting. Most references that I have show that night time bedwetting is considered "normal" until 6 to 7 years of age and that boys are typically more difficult to train than girls. That being said, I now have my own 4 1/2 year old boy that is extremely distraught in the mornings when his Pull-Up is wet. First, I borrowed one of the Malem alarms that we have to loan at work (the cheaper $89.00 one that does not vibrate) and found that if I allowed my child to sleep with this one, he woke up screaming and terrified due to the high-pitched audible alarm. Needless to say, our entire family of four was then awake until everyone could calm back down. In addition, the safety pin that is on the Mardel alarm tore a hole in the two sets of pajamas that we used with it.

Now for the good news. For less than half the cost of the comparable Malem alarm, The Wet-Stop 3 is AMAZING. Over a one month period, my son of 4 1/2 years has gone from wetting his pants 2-3 times per night, to wearing regular underwear and being dry all night long. In addition, there is a magnet attached to the vibration/audible alarm (there are 3 settings, either vibration or audible only, or vibration and audible together) that folds over the neckline of the pajamas, so no pins and no holes in the clothes. This is how we used the alarm:

First: we talked about how it worked and let him feel what the vibration felt like on his collar bone by dipping the computer chip in a cup of water. Once he was convinced that the alarm would not be deafening in the night, he was excited about wearing it.

Week 1: The first 4 nights, we allowed our son to sleep in a sleeping bag on the floor in our room. The first 2 night of this he woke up soaking wet, with the alarm going off, woke me up, and I helped him changed his Pull-Up and reattached the alarm. The second 2 nights, he woke up slightly less wet and finished urinating in the toilet, then we changed his Pull-Up. An important point, it was difficult enough for me to disconnect the clamp from his Pull-Up and hold the alarm reset button in, much less having a young child do this alone. The last 3 days of the first week, our son slept in his room, but came to wake me when he was wet (albeit, just barely) to reset the alarm and finish urinating in the toilet.

Week 2: 3 of 7 nights, the Pull-Up was DRY, the others we finished in the toilet and resent the alarm and went to bed.

Week 3: DRY for 7 nights in a row, still wearing the Wet-Stop 3 and a Pull-Up

Week 4: So far, we are 2 days into week 4 and our son is wearing regular underpants with the Wet-Stop 3 attached. So far, haven't had to change any sheets!!!!! He wakes up with a smile from ear to ear and that is worth all the money in the world.

As with anything new, consistency is the key. Don't get discouraged after one or two days of wet pants. Keep at it and encourage your child with every step. Congratulate him/her for waking up to the alarm, for coming to get help, etc. Remember, this is behavior modification, not punishment, and not magic.

I hope this review is helpful, and that your family has as much success as we have experienced. Good Luck!

Customer Review: Life-changing purchase for our child and for us!
Summary: 5 Stars

That review title may sound a bit over-the-top, but it is accurate. Our 6-1/2 year-old has only had a handful of dry nights in her life. We have tried many different night-training approaches over the past year, as she was starting to get self-conscious about her bed-wetting. She tried very, very hard to stay dry (and WE tried very hard to help her), but despite our limiting liquids in the evening, having her use the bathroom several times before bed, and waking her up during the night to use the bathroom, she would still wake up wet (she is a very deep sleeper).

We were ready to try something new because we were exhausted from waking her up during the night and then still washing sheets every morning. And she was exhausted from the disturbed sleep. After lots of research, we decided to try a bed-wetting alarm. To be honest, we purchased the Wet-Stop 3 because it was the least expensive one we could find, and we were skeptical that it would work.

For the first 4 nights our daughter wore this alarm, it woke her up in the middle of wetting the bed, and she was able to finish in the toilet. For the next 5 nights, it woke her up just as she started to wet, and she finished in the toilet. It woke her up so quickly that her underwear was just a little wet, and her bed was still dry. On the 10th night of wearing the alarm, she woke up dry the next morning! We thought perhaps the alarm had become disconnected because we couldn't believe it could actually work this fast! That was about 4 weeks ago, and she has been dry every single night since! We were so confident in her ability to stay dry that we just took our first family vacation ever without bringing pullups along.

Needless to say, I highly recommend a bed-wetting alarm. The Wet-Stop 3 was the right one for our family because of the price and the ability to select either alarm, vibration, or both. Our daughter was eager to use it because she REALLY wanted to stop wetting the bed. It would be helpful to talk to your child before purchasing and explain that you have found something that helps a lot of kids and that it might be good to try. I have read that children who sleep so deeply that they do not wake up at the urge to urinate are the ones who are helped the most quickly by these alarms. That was certainly the case for us. If you are thinking about purchasing a bedwetting alarm, this one is certainly worthy of your consideration. The money we are saving by no longer purchasing pullups or washing sheets every day has more than paid for this alarm. And we can't put a price tag on our daughter's improved self-esteem.

Customer Review: Worth the money and more...

Where, oh where, do I start. If I could nominate this device for the Nobel Peace Prize, I would. As I write this review, my 5.5 year old son is fast asleep - sleeping for the first time without a diaper. Did I mention that he's 5.5? All I can say is that I wish I had bought this device years ago. I had no idea it could be this simple. After reviewing all the devices on Amazon, I bought this one because it got good reviews and it was also the cheapest. When it came, I read the instructions with skepticism. I never thought something this low-tech and rather crude looking would work. We attached it the first night into his diaper and it went off as promised. (A note of guidance here : I believe the device is supposed to be worn with underwear, which, given our issues with nighttime peeing, we were unwilling to try. Use a diaper and make sure you change the diaper every time the alarm goes off or it will continue to sound). The first few nights were a bit of a challenge with him as he didn't want to have to pee half asleep. Talking to them during the day about the process definitely helps with the mood at night when they're awakened.

After probably two weeks of using the device and thinking it wasn't working, he magically went a night without peeing once in his diaper. The glimmer of hope was ignited. We continued the good fight and had a couple more nights pee-free. It wasn't consistent at first, but then became more and more consistent - leading up to tonight where he's gone the last 7 days without a drop of pee in his diaper. His muscle or whatever it is has been trained and he wakes up every morning and produces a toilet-full of pee.

Like many parents who struggle with a late trainer, I read some of the reviews on devices like this with skepticism that it would actually help my son. I read a lot others' comments regarding special needs kids, which is not my son. I was beginning to think there was something just physiologically wrong with my son. I thought we'd never conquer this and our late-training son would simply turn into a bedwetter for the next 5 years. The prospect of facing that was almost too overwhelming to consider after struggling with this for the last 3 years.

I can't begin to tell you how much this device has changed our lives. If you are struggling with a late-training child and have tried everything else, try this device. I don't know if it works the same for every kid out there, but our own experience with it has been a resounding success.

Customer Review: Thank you wetstop
Summary: 5 Stars

Our son was almost 5 when I purchased this item. We were spending so much in Huggies Overnights and my son was filling them up every night - a regular diaper wouldn't do. For 2 weeks my husband and I tried getting our son up every few hours throughout the night. After two weeks we were both exhuasted and our son was no closer to staying dry than before. I gave Wetstop a try because of the price and good review, I must say that I'm so thankful for this product. At first, I was a little nervous that the alarm would scare my son. I think it is plenty loud and my son always woke up to the sound and vibration (without him being scared by it).
The first few nights I was dubious, my son wet the bed big time. But each time the alarm always sounded and my son would wake up. After about 4-5 days, there were still accidents, but I could tell my son was learning to stop the flow of urine when the alarm sounded. The accidents were getting smaller so I had hope. In less than 2 weeks our son started having his first totally dry nights ever. I was beyond happy and so was my son. We used the stars that come with the package, but used them on our regular calendar - it was a small reward for him, but also allowed me to easily track his progress.
After he had two weeks of staying dry every night we stopped using wetstop. He did have a relapse, but I really believe it was due to us moving. We had him start wearing the alarm again, and in just a few days he was back on track and has been ever since.
One thing I didn't love about the alarm is how long the cord is that connects the sensor to the alarm, but I imagine it is needed for older/taller children. To take care of this issue, I simply put another pair of underwear over the 1st pair. I bought the thicker cotton training underwear for this. My son didn't mind at all and the extra pair gave a place to tuck the extra wire. To save sheet changes in the middle of the night I bought several waterproof pads that are made to lay right over the sheets. Much less to wash and makes for a much quicker clean up so everyone can go back to sleep. I love Basic Comfort Handy's Plus Pad. They tuck under the sides of the mattress so they stay in place very well.Summer Infant Handy's Mattress Pad

I'm so glad we didn't wait any longer to try this alarm!

Customer Review: Doesn't work for deep sleepers--*Revised review*
Summary: 4 Stars

I had high hopes for this after reading the reviews, but for 3 nights now, the alarm plus vibration doesn't remotely stir my 5-year-old deep sleeper. She just lies there blissfully sleeping away in a puddle of urine while my husband and I hear the beeping and wake up in the next room. I am trying not to dispair, but her just turned 3-year-old sister wakes up on her own at night to go potty and hasn't had an accident at night for a long time. Until we find something to condition her to wake when she has the urge to go, I guess the only solution is for my husband and I to take turns waking her a couple of times at night to go to the potty. I do not recommend this product at all for anyone who has a deep sleeper like ours. Even on the most "obnoxious" setting with the alarm plus vibration, your child will still not wake up.

UPDATE: I have changed my Wet Stop review to 4 stars because apparently, you really, really do need to wait until the child is 6 years old. I had read about that after we tried this alarm when she was 5. So, we held onto this alarm and tried it again a few months after my daughter turned 6. The first few nights were brutal. My husband and i got no sleep because she was peeing the bed and mostly sleeping through the alarm. But, we stayed with it, as recommended, and in about 5 nights, she still wasn't fully waking up when the alarm went off. But, when the alarm did go off, we would check on her, and she'd urinated just a little bit. Although groggy, she could hold the rest so that we could get her to the bathroom. Then by 8-10 days after starting the Wet Stop "program," she was waking up when it went off, holding in her urine, and making it to the bathroom to go. By two weeks, we didn't even need the alarm on her. It trained her to wake up when she had to go. It's been about a month since she's been fully potty trained at night and has had NO ACCIDENTS! She still sleeps very deeply and doesn't ever seem to remember waking up to go potty at night. Our other daughter does know when she wakes up to go, so we know that our oldest just is OUT when she sleeps. But, now she is out of night-time pants, finally. It felt like we'd never get here! So, YOU HAVE to wait until the child is old enough, and YOU HAVE to give it some time to work!!! It will not work in 2-3 nights. You have to stay with it for 2-3 weeks. I'm so glad we gave it another try.
