As far as taste, I think it is very mild - hardly noticeable in a full glass of water. I haven't tasted river water, but I could imagine this tasting like "clean river water". I do not know if it really works, I have tried it with psyllium husk. It certainly hasn't hurt though, and I would like to continue use to see if it helps cleanse my system (which shows evidence of "pollution" by facial acne). I'm trying it on my face but it is a bit too liquid and I think I would do better with a dry clay and mix it with liquid myself.
