Customer Review: Not a good value, doesn't deserve every penny

GHD got its name because it was an early adopter of tourmaline ceramic plate (coated over aluminum), providing a much better performance jump over older solid ceramic plate flat irons.
But solid ceramic plates are phasing out, and most irons now either use the same kind of plates or titanium plates. Then the differentiator become the type of ceramic heater (New MCH/PTFC vs older PTC), so this is a factor to look for. MCH/PTFC heater are much faster so the temperature stability is much better.(this is where the "one-pass" comes from)
GHD does have MCH heater. But this product lacks other important features, such as the temperature adjustment, digital temperature display, therefore, user has no way knowing the actual plate temperature. This give chances to fake GHD which is set to higher temperatures close to 400F, while the authentic GHD is centered around 365F. The same happens to CHI, most fake CHI have higher temperature around 400F, but the authentic CHI is about 360F (Anyone can call Folica to get this product info!)
The funny thing is those fake CHI / GHD at high temp actually managed to help some users becuase they are faster....
Anyway, when a company invests more than 60% of the product cost beyond the flat iron itself, into package and hypes, it is not money well spent for cosumers, a price/cost ratio well beyond 500% assures it doesn't worth every penny, because it no longer has intrinsic technology / component advantages over other similar products, besides the brand name and the high price. For example, the following product temperature adjustment, same tourmaline coated aluminum plate and it comes with one year warranty which you don't get from CHI/GHD sold on Amazon:
