Customer Reviews of iTouchless Stainless-Steel Hands-Free 13-Gallon Infrared Automatic Trash CanCustomer Review: A satisfied customer Summary: 5 StarsMy trash can arrived promptly and in perfect condition. Works very well and I really like it. Once you own one of these trash cans you will not want to go back to the manual type. I shopped around for price of this same item and Amazon has the best price by far of anyone else. Highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: WOW Summary: 5 StarsWe purchased both the 13 and 7 gal models last year. They are fantastic. NO problems. This year, we're giving them as gifts. In the words of my 11 month old niece, "WOW".
Customer Review: itouchless Trash can Summary: 5 StarsThis is great. I bought it as a present and intend to get one for our home when we return.
Customer Review: I bought this when we remodeled our kitchen Summary: 5 StarsWhen our kitchen was remodeled in 2004, I wanted a nice stainless steel trash can that would coordinate with our new stainless steel appliances. Everything that I saw, and liked, was over $100.00. When I came across the iTouchless can, I liked the look and the price and felt the touchless part was icing on the cake. I bought it.
This can has been in constant use since November of 2004. We had no problems until about two months ago when the plastic lid hinges, which had been showing wear for some time, began to wear through. This meant that we had to push the hinge pin back in place a couple of times a day so that it wouldn't completely disengage. If we forgot to do this, and the hinge pin disengaged, the lid would make a terrible clattering sound and would need to be turned off, the pin pushed back into place, and then it would be OK again... until the next time.
Having become so spoiled by the convenience of the iTouchless trash can, I gave no thought to replacing it with a non-automatic can. The can itself was still in excellent condition, and I was pleased to find that I could replace just the lid, so I ordered a replacement. When the lid arrived, we noticed that the hinges were a little different, and it appears that these hinges should last longer than the original hinges.
As I said, this can has been in constant use since November of 2004. That's four years. I have no complaints. In fact, we have only replaced the batteries one time.
We have always used the lid according to the instructions, e.g., we do not manually push it up and/or down. If we need to keep it open for a while, we use the button provided for that purpose. When finished, we push the button to close the lid and switch it back to automatic.
We use 13 gallon trashbags and have experienced no problems with keeping them in place. All in all, I feel this is a product well worth having and, if I ever need to replace it, I will replace it with the same iTouchless trash can.
Customer Review: great idea; poor execution Summary: 1 StarsI have purchased this can twice in the last two years. The first time, it worked for about a year and then quit; by then we were quite spoiled with the ease of waving our hands over the sensor and getting an instantly open trash can. Hoping that the failure was a fluke and that particular can a bit of a lemon, I re-purchased this in February of this year (2008). It's been dying for about a month now, so we got only about eight months of good service out of this one. Last night it gave up the ghost entirely after having made an awful racket for the last month. We hoped new batteries might have an effect, but, no.
I love the idea of this can, but I can't see paying this much money annually for a trash can. I bought a stainless steel SimpleHuman half round 13 gallon step-on; though I fight the temptation to be miffed that I actually have to do something to get it open, I have to say it looks great and works very well indeed. It's also true that the opening is larger which is certainly convenient when tossing the particularly odious. The fairly small opening on the iTouch means that getting the container from a family size pack of meat into the can without touching the sides of the opening can be difficult.
I'll likely try again in a few years, but for now, I am resigned to opening the can myself.
