Customer Review: just about any 6000K GX10Q-4 base bulb will do

I have one from an original Verilux's fixture and the included bulb burned out in less than 2 months. Then I replaced it with another brand's bulb.
In terms of form factor, as long as it has a GX10Q-4 base (sometimes called "linear quad" or "4 pin F quads"), any replacement bulb should fit *EDIT* but please see the discussion in the product "comments" below for a brand that works and another that doesn't. I do not know why there can be so much variation in a socket specification...
In terms of light quality, as long as it's 6000K, you may not see a difference unless you do a side-by-side experiment. Sure, Verilux will claim that they are "full-spectrum", but you can read the spectroradiometer output yourself if you search for "solux verilux". I won't go so far to claim that all 6000K Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs on the market are the same. They may vary in the chemical composition and hence the color temperature. (Verilux measures 5700K in my experiment and a competitor's at 5900K. Note that most people prefer warmer temperature so indeed 5700K is more preferrable.)
Having used a different brand's replacement myself, there is very little difference in Verilux's bulb to justify the much higher price (more than double if you shop around) when compared to competitors. Your choice.

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS LAMP!!!
I bought this lamp 5 years ago & had to replace the bulb already & the bulb again burned out last night. I called the Customer Service today & was told that even though the bulb is rated at 10,000 hours, the bulb is performing well if it lasts 1 ½ year! Even if I use the lamp for 8 hours a day every day (which I do not), the bulb should last at least 3 ½ years! What's worse, you cannot buy a $10 replacement bulbs from Lowes because it won't fit; you HAVE TO buy THEIR bulb!
I even waited on hold for over an hour to speak to a Customer Service manager who said he stands by their lamp & don't see what my problem was. The problem is they think it's okay for their customers to waste $20 every year & half to purchase a replacement bulb! Seriously, in this economic climate?!!!
Save your money & buy a different brand of lamp! Save the aggravation of having your lamp die an early death; only to hear from a flippant Customer Service telling you that if your are getting 1 ½ year of light from your Verilux lamp, you are doing good. I am definitely not re-purchasing a replacement bulb & chunking this junky Verilux lamp!

First experience with this vendor. Item arrived not functioning. In order to replace the item, the vendor wanted me to take a picture of the item and return it to them "proving" that the item was not functioning. The vendor assumed that I have a digital camera and would tolerate the hassle of their request. Enough! I patronize Amazon and their vendors for convenience and quality - when the "(hassle) to (convenience and quality)" ratio gets too high - I balk. That's what happened in this case. I will still patronize Amazon but no way for this vendor - there are many other sources for the vendor's merchandise - they should understand that they are in the commodity business!Customer Review: It's the real thing!!!

After reading others' purchases from sellers other than this one, I was hesitant to buy a Verilux bulb over the internet. They are so expensive! (especially when son knocked over lamp, and it softly fell onto the carpeting!). But this seller's picture of the bulb for sale was the actual item, and I know that if I didn't get an actual Verilux, I could/would return it.
It was perfect, packaged by Amazon so it wouldn't break, and went into the floor lamp like a charm. It was a real Verilux, too, as I kept the broken one for comparison (and if it isn't, doesn't matter..it's working wonderfully).
